The Mount Royale Hotel

Vincent & Partners secured planning permission for a scheme to build two contemporary single-storey houses, each with 3-bedrooms, on land to rear of The Mount Royale Hotel, York. The new scheme will replace an existing bungalow, storage buildings and an outdoor pool.

The Mount Royale Hotel is a Grade II Listed Building comprising two William IV houses, interconnected in the Seventies, located within the York Central Historic Core Conservation Area. Tucked away in traditional English country gardens, the proposed site is currently home to the owners of the Hotel, with a workshop and outdoor heated pool for use of paying guests.

The proposals to demolish the existing ancillary buildings and revise the layout will optimise the space and completely regenerate the site. The new homes will be contemporary in form, with clean white façades and minimalist lines. The pair will sit side-by-side, unobtrusively within the grounds and incorporate flat ‘living roofs’ adorned with vegetation, to minimise the impact on hotel residents and neighbouring properties. Under the plans, the contemporary dwellings will provide a secure enclave for the hotel owners and extract full value from the underdeveloped grounds.

The Vincent & Partners team submitted applications for Listed Building and Full Planning Consent for the scheme.
