Fishergate

The renovation of a first-floor, 3-bedroom apartment, situated above commercial premises within a Grade II listed building on Fishergate, York. In close collaboration with client Inglehurst Property, Vincent & Partners put forward proposals to transform the 3-bedroom apartment into a luxurious pied-a-terre, perfect for aspiring urbanites or equally suited as lock-up-and-leave.

The stunning refurbishment features a master bedroom with en-suite facilities, luxuriously finished with white metro tiles and a contemporary suite. The internal corridors feature ornate panelling to complement the inherent historic features including deep skirting boards and cornicing, intricate ceiling roses and a stunning bay window to the living room. A new shaker style kitchen-diner, fitted with modern appliances, fits seamlessly within the muted colour palette running throughout the scheme.

Originally constructed circa 1830 the building was later altered in the 1900s. Externally to the first floor, there are 2 lines of inscription in large raised letters, interrupted by the windows and covering the full width of the facade. This reads, 'T.M. Oxtoby & Son, Painters, Paperhangers, Decorators’ - a well-known painters and decorators which traded for over a century. The signage is now regarded as one of York’s finest examples of a ‘ghost sign’ and special measures were taken to protect it during the completion of works.

The Grade II listed building sits within walking distance of York’s iconic Clifford's Tower. The apartment lies within the York Central Historic Core Conservation Area and has unparalleled views of the Bar walls from the living room bay window.

The Vincent & Partners team oversaw the project from RIBA stages 1 - 6 - coordinating all external consultants and contractors to deliver the final product for open market sales.
