A prominent retail property situated in the city centre of York, Vincent and Brown were appointed to develop a scheme for remodelling the existing building, bringing back into use vacant floors to provide new self-contained holiday accommodation

Previously being used solely for retail use, large sections of the buildings upper levels have remained unused for many years and as a result have deteriorated into a poor condition. The scheme seeks to repurpose this unused space, ensuring valuable city centre accommodation is provided with a new lease of life.

The ground and basement levels of the building are to be retained and refurbished for retail use, meaning a creative design approach was necessary to overcome the challenge of providing the required access on a dense inner-city site.

A new circulation core and roof terrace are situated within what was previously an area of inaccessible roof space, providing a delicate and discrete intervention which helps to connect the existing upper levels whilst also offering a calm outdoor environment in which guests can relax away from the bustling streets beyond.

The scheme was submitted for planning approval in October 2021.
