Revised proposals submitted for 3-5 Toft Green

A planning application was submitted in February 2020 for a new office building and landscaped roof terrace, in York City Centre. The proposed scheme for 3-5 Toft Green will provide over 16,000 sq.ft. of high-quality office space within close proximity to York train station.

Following the initial consultation process with key stakeholders and members of the public, the scheme evolved in response to the feedback. Amendments to the proposals include a reduction in the scale of the building and the simplification of its appearance, to sit sympathetically within the existing streetscape.

In line with York’s coronavirus response and continued investment in local businesses through Government grants, the supply of modern, flexible, high grade office space is predicted to surge in line with the city’s economic recovery. The proposed redevelopment will satiate existing demand and provide viable solutions for new commercial ventures seeking to relocate to the city; a key focus of both the Council’s emerging Local Plan and the Economic Development Strategy for the city.

The scheme presents a viable opportunity to regenerate a brownfield site and improve York’s Central Conservation Area, including key heritage assets, most notably Micklegate House (Grade I).

A planning decision is expected during the early part of 2021.
