9 The Crescent is submitted for planning

Vincent & Brown’s proposals for a new 32,400 sq ft Grade A office space close to York railway station have been submitted for planning approval. Located on the fringe of the proposed York Central station redevelopment masterplan, the site bookends a curved Victorian crescent of townhouses in a prime location close to the city centre.

The scheme creates a bridge between the two distinct neighbourhoods of industrial railway land and characterful Victorian terraces, with reference taken from the historic appraisal of the site and the Conservation Area within which it lies. The building will create a defined end to the existing terrace and enrich the streetscape from both The Crescent and the station grounds.

The building mass is split into three separate forms, one following the line of The Crescent, one fronting the train station and a central space acting as a functional connection between the two. The design enables the scheme to respond to the contrasting external approaches and facilitates the internal design to optimise levels of natural light into the office spaces.

The building form and roof line nestles seamlessly alongside adjacent properties, whilst traditional materials reference architectural characteristics including distressed red brickwork and contrasting stone headers. Deep window reveals, brickwork relief and variations in brick bond deliver a modern interpretation of the historical setting.

Proposals for 9 The Crescent were developed in close collaboration with heritage consultants Montagu Evans and conservation specialists Marcus Beale Architects.
